William Haggas Wife Maureen Haggas Age Gap And Family Life On Jockey

The British thoroughbred racehorse trainer, William Haggas, is based at Somerville Lodge stables in Newmarket, Suffolk. He is wed to Maureen Haggas, the daughter of multiple champion jockey Lester Pigott. On May 29, 2022, Lester Pigott passed away due to health issues.

Who Is William Haggas’s Wife, Maureen Haggas?

Maureen Haggas is the oldest daughter of the late jockey Lester Piggott. She is the wife of Derby champion Newmarket trainer William Haggas.

Lester married Maureen’s mother, Susan Armstrong, in 1960. Maureen has a younger sister Tracy working for RTE in Ireland, and they have a stepbrother named Jamie. Lester had a relationship with Anna Ludlow, his assistant, during which Jamie was born.

Maureen’s father, Lester, was the Queen’s preferred jockey who had a nearly 48-year career. He began racing horses at a young age and won his first race in 1948 at 12.

Lester passed away at a hospital in Switzerland, and his son-in-law William Haggas broke the news of his demise. He was being cared for by Maureen and William when he was admitted to the hospital.

Maureen’s husband, William, did not say much about Lester’s condition but disclosed that he was fighting the disease and succumbed to death.

Now, after the death of her father, another unfortunate incident fell into the Haggas family as Maureen broke two bones in her neck by falling on the gallops when her horse was startled by a dog.

Age Gap Between William Haggas And Maureen

The Newmarket trainer William Haggas was born on August 23, 1960. He was born in Skipton, United Kingdom, and is 61 years old. His wife, Maureen, has not disclosed her date of birth; nevertheless, it seems like she is also in her late fifties. 

The couple married in 1989, and it does not look like they have much of an age difference. William and Maureen have two children, Mary-Anne and Sam. Like his father, Sam is also involved in racing, working as a bloodstock agent.

Haggas, one of Her Majesty the Queen’s most dependable trainers, won the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Australia’s Randwick racetrack in 2020 and 2021. He is originally from Skiptop, a town on the outskirts of the Yorkshire Dales.

Haggas’s father, Brian, was a wealthy textile manufacturer who worked in the creation of the renowned Harris Tweed. William attended the famous Harrow public school, doing good in his academics part.

Details On William Haggas’s Family And Children

As aforementioned, William Haggas has two children with his wife, Maureen. The couple has been married for 33 years. A couple of months ago, Maureen lost her father, the legendary British jockey Lester Piggott.

Piggott was a skilled jockey and trainer who had bagged 4,493 career victories in flat racing in Britain, amassing a record nine Epsom Derby victories. He is recognized as one of the best flat racing riders and inventor of a highly emulated technique.

Honoring him, a structure resembling Piggott was created at the Manchester flower show, named “Groot’s tribute,” as it was made with twigs. (Refer to the embed above)

His sudden demise shocked his family, especially Maureen, who was taking care of him. While on the other side, Maureen has also recently broken two vertebrae in her neck and wearing a collar to help recover.
