Yes, Arooj Aftab is a Muslim. We guess most people are aware of his religion by her surname or her music style.

Most people relate her to Abida Parveen, one of South Asia’s most famous musicians.

Abida is known as the “Queen of Sufi Music,” a type of devout Muslim poetry and song that seeks enlightenment via a deep, mystical relationship with God.

Aftab approaches her music in a similar manner most of the time.

Aftab was born in Saudi Arabia to Islamic parents. They moved back to their hometown of Lahore, Pakistan, which is mostly known for its abundance of Muslim culture.

Meet Arooj Aftab Family

In terms of family, Aftab was born in Saudi Arabia to Pakistani parents who had moved there.

They moved back to their hometown of Lahore, Pakistan, when she was about ten years old.

She self taught herself to play the guitar and progressively developed her singing style while listening her inpirations Billie Holiday, Hariprasad Chaurasia, Mariah Carey, and Begum Akhtar.

Aftab was living in a place where access to Western online platforms was difficult, and the infrastructure for independent music was barren at the time.

However, in this setting, Aftab would promote her music in Pakistan, having been one of the first musicians in her country to use the Internet in the early 2000s.
