Jos Buttler has a New Zealand-based English accent, but he is actually from England. His voice and tone somehow match with South-African players as well.

Most assume Jos has a strong Afrikaans accent just like his idol AB de Villiers. However, he consistently dispels the myths by stating that he was born in Taunton, Somerset.

Buttler made his T20I, ODI, and Test debuts in 2011, 2012, and 2014, respectively. He played for England in the team that won the 2019 Cricket World Cup, and he made the run out in the Super Over that ended the match, proving that he is a true Englishman.

While Jos has a powerful English accent, he was accused of Mocking an Indian-English accent which came under the scanner after a few old tweets of Ollie Robinson resurfaced on Twitter. Many termed these tweets as inappropriate.

Moreover, he was also banned from the Indian Premier League (IPL) for this incident in 2021. Although they apologized for the behavior, they couldn’t play that season.

When Butler was interviewed during the T20i world cup in a recent event, his English accent was labeled a distinctive one. He spoke proper British English during the post-match interview after England faced Pakistan in the world cup final.

Jos Buttler’s Voice Somehow Relates To South African Tone

Jos Buttler is not South African as he was born and raised in Taunton, Somerset, England. 

Because Buttler claimed to have watched AB de Villiers play as a child and Jos had AB de Villiers as an idol, many people concluded that Buttler was also South African. However, Buttler dispelled it by claiming that he was only a cricket enthusiast and that they are both from separate nations.

When AB de Villers first met him, he asked, “What region of New Zealand are you from? ” which surprised Jos, who then clarified the misunderstanding by learning that he is from England.

He is one of four Englishmen to score a T20I century and is England’s leading run scorer in T20Is. He holds both the ODI and T20I wicket-keeping records for most dismissals for England, and based on these records, it is impossible to dispute that he is not an Englishman.

Jos Buttler, one of England’s most gifted cricket players, was born to parents John and Patricia Buttler on September 8, 1990.

He spent much of his formative years in Taunton, Somerset, England, where he was born, together with his parents and four younger siblings. Despite being there for several of their son’s matches, Buttler’s parents have shied away from the media and have been absent for the majority of his playing career. Jos’s parents always supported him in choosing a career in his field of interest, even if they were absent for the majority of his extraordinary career.

He made his senior club cricket debut at the age of 15 for Cheddar before transferring to Glastonbury for the 2006 season. His parents are really proud of him for having previously represented Glastonbury, and they are overjoyed that he has now won a world cup as a result of his outstanding performance.
