Aj Griffin’s brother, Alan Griffin, has played basketball for the Illinois Fighting Illini and the Syracuse Orange. He now plays professionally for the Newfoundland Growlers of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL).
Alan went undrafted in the 2021 NBA draft and was acquired by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in an October trade with the Santa Cruz Warriors. He was, however, released on December 14 after just four games.
He signed a contract with the Westchester Knicks on December 19, 2021. The Westchester Knicks repurchased him on January 9, 2022. After that, on January 23, 2022, he was released.
As of May 2022, the shooting guard is playing for the Newfoundland Growlers of the CEBL.

Griffin is the son of athletes- Audrey Griffin and Adrian Griffin Sr. He was born on August 25, 2003.
Adrian Griffin, AJ Griffin’s dad, was a shooting guard and small forward in the NBA from 1999 to 2008. Although he attended Seton Hall University, she was not selected in the NBA draft. Due to this reason, he began playing abroad, primarily in Italy, before making his NBA debut in 1999 as a rookie for the Boston Celtics.
Adrian played nine NBA seasons with five different clubs, including the Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets, and Dallas Mavericks. While Adrian was a member of the Rockets, AJ arrived in his life. Unfortunately, the proud father never won an NBA championship, although he was started in the 2006 finals with his team Dallas Mavericks losing to Heats.
After retirement, Griffin’s father started his coaching career. He joined the Milwaukee Bucks as an assistant coach. In recent years, Adrian has also worked as an assistant coach for the Bulls, Magic, and Thunder.
