Her expertise in all manners of aging caused her to be declared the Professor of Ageing at the VU University Amsterdam in the Netherlands in February 2016.
Additionally, Professor Maier has been Divisional Director of Medicine and Community Care at the Royal Melbourne Hospital as of February 2016. The same year she became a Professorial Fellow of Aged Care at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
