Details On Ashley And Doug’s Relationship
Ashley Benefield and Doug Benefield initially crossed paths in August 2016 at a dinner party in Florida during the presidential campaign. Ashley was 24, and Doug was 54 at that time. Doug and Ashley started dating within a week after their meeting, and after 13 days, the pair married.
Eva, Doug’s daughter, was shocked because Doug had promised her he wouldn’t get married again, at least not anytime soon. By promising Eva his second marriage was for her to have a mother role in her life, Doug persuaded Eva to agree. Regardless of the second marriage, Eva and Doug were always close. Ashley, however, sought to sour their relationship by misinterpreting Eva’s words and complaining to Doug.

One day when Ashley and Doug were arguing over Eva, Doug shot a bullet into his home ceiling after losing his temper. Ashley was pregnant at that time, and she took the matter seriously.
Ashley Benefield Shot Doug Benefield To Death
Ashley shot her husband Doug Benefield to death on 27 September 2020. But, this incident has a long story behind it.
Following the gun incident, Ashley left a four-page note to Doug stating all his incompetencies and how he was possessive and controlling. She further wrote that she was “fearful for her life and the safety of her unborn child.” Ashley then leveled numerous accusations against Doug. She claimed he was poisoning her with tea and that Renee, his deceased wife, who had died of a heart condition, had been poisoned.
Moreover, Ashley didn’t tell Doug about their daughter’s birth in March 2018 as she was living with her mother. Even with all this chaos, the couple managed to work out their issues, and for a year, they appeared happy.
On 27 September 2020, when Doug and Ashley were packing to move to Maryland at around 7 p.m. of the day, a neighbor heard them screaming and called 911. The screaming was because Ashley had shot Doug, which she admitted herself but asserted was out of self-defense. Doug passed away an hour later at a local hospital.

Later Ashley’s mother informed the police that Ashley had been in constant fear of Doug for three and a half years. She claimed they attempted to contact the authorities for assistance, but no one would assist them. The department looked into Ashley’s charges against Doug, but Doug was off any legal trial.
Investigations revealed that Doug had been shot twice while facing Ashley’s direction. Doug was shot twice, once in the arm and once in the leg. One of the shots entered his chest. Ashley was taken into custody and charged with counts of second-degree murder five weeks after the shooting. However, she made a not guilty plea, and after spending nearly two weeks in jail, she was released on bond.
The case has not elevated since then, and the court trial is yet to proceed.
