Draupadi Murmu, a tribal woman leader, has been chosen by the Modi government to run for president.

In the July elections, she will face Yashwant Sinha, a former Union Minister running as a joint opposition candidate. The 64-year-old will be the country’s first indigenous woman president if elected.

According to BJP Chief JP Nadda, the parliamentary board of the BJP reviewed 20 names for a presidential nominee before deciding on someone from east India, a tribal, and a woman.

Draupadi Murmu Educational Qualification As Tribal Presidential Candidate

Draupadi Murmu is an arts graduate from Rama Devi Women’s College. she worked as an honorary assistant professor at Shri Aurobindo Integral Education and Research in Rairangpur and subsequently as a Junior Assistant in the Odisha Irrigation Department, where she was elected.

In 2015, Ms. Murmu, a Santhal, became the first woman to be sworn in as the Governor of Jharkhand. Ms. Murmu, a two-term BJP legislator from Odisha, served in the Naveen Patnaik government when the Biju Janata Dal or BJD ruled the state with the BJP’s backing.

She has extensive administrative expertise, having worked in the Odisha government’s ministries such as transportation, commerce, fisheries, and animal husbandry. She began her political career as a counselor and rose to become the Vice-Chairperson of the Rairangpur National Advisory Council.

She progressed through the party’s Scheduled Tribe Morcha ranks in Odisha to become a national executive member in 2013.

In 2015, Droupadi Murmu was sworn in as Jharkhand’s first female governor. She is an Odisha native from the Santhal tribe. Murmu began his career as a teacher before entering politics in Odisha in 1997.

Droupadi Murmu was elected to the Rairangpur constituency twice, in 2000 and 2009, after serving as vice-president of the BJP’s Scheduled Tribes Morcha.

Between 2000 and 2004, Droupadi Murmu served as a minister in the BJD-BJP coalition government in Odisha, first in the Commerce and Transport department and then in the Fisheries and Animal Resources department.

Former Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu has been named the National Democratic Alliance’s presidential candidate.

Draupadi Murmu Husband And Children In The Family

Draupadi was born in the hamlet of Baidaposi in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha on June 20, 1958. Biranchi Narayan Tudu is her father’s name. She is a member of the Santal tribe, a tribal ethnic group.

Shyam Charan Murmu was Murmu’s husband. They had two sons and a daughter together. Personal traumas, including her husband’s and two boys’ deaths, have shaped Draupadi Murmu’s life.

Former Jharkhand governor and tribal leader Draupadi Murmu were named as the BJP-led NDA’s presidential candidate for the 2019 elections against united opposition nominee Yashwant Sinha on Tuesday.
