In the tweet published on October 9, 2022, now deleted, the World Champion wrote in Spanish announcing the news.
Following the post, the ex-Real Madrid footballer was trolled online; at the same time, the news soon emerged that his claim may have been a hoax. Some social media users also spread the rumor that is joking that his former National Side colleague, Carlos Puyol is his partner.
Casillas was married to sports journalist Sara Carbonero for five years before their separation in March 2021, having had two children, both boys. In recent weeks, Casillas’ name has also been linked with Colombian singer Shakira, who recently got divorced from Barcelona defender Gerard Pique.

Meanwhile, Casillas is recently trending after a suspicious deleted tweet. On Sunday afternoon, the goalkeeper tweeted about being an LGBTQ member.
Following the tweet, Casillas received thousands of supportive responses. Carles Puyol, a former teammate from Spain, responded by saying, “It’s time to tell our tale, Iker,” adding a heart and kiss emoji. This further created confusion among football fans and implied the suggestion that the two were dating, and the frenzy grew even more intense.
However, the 39-year-old goalie has already issued a statement saying his Twitter account was hacked since those claims from Spain surfaced. He expressed regret to the LGBT community as well. This suggests that Casillas and Puyol were only joking around.
Casillas’ Twitter page published the following: “compromised account. Fortunately, everything is in order. I apologize to all of my supporters. Also, additional apologies to the LGBT community, of course.”
Casillas had also denied dating Shakira, the former partner of Gerard Pique, last month.
Iker Casillas Split With Wife Sara Carbonero
The former Real Madrid goalkeeper divorced Sara Carbonero in March 2021. During their five-year relationship, they had two children.
Their son, Martin, who is now eight years old, was born to them on January 3, 2014, in Madrid. The couple then announced they were expecting their second child in November of the following year. Eventually, Casillas and Carbonero were married on June 2, 2016, three months before the birth of Lucas, who is now six.
They remained legally married for five years before officially separating in March last year.
Despite his divorce, Iker Casillas’ net worth remains stable at around USD 20 million as of 2022.
