Is Scott Pendlebury Retiring? AFL Would Miss That Hair

Rumors about Pendlebury’s retirement spread on the media after his brutal injury in 2017. Up to his damaged finger in Round 17 against the Gold Coast Suns, Pendlebury had a reliable 2017. After a successful surgery on his finger, he was hoping to play the following week again.

However, his comeback was postponed for a month, and it was predicted that he wouldn’t play until Round 22 or 23. but didn’t come back for the rest of the season. Fans were worried Scott would never play again. But he made a comeback next season.

Will This Season Be His Last?

Pendlebury was open about his plans when asked whether this may be his final year leading the team. Early this year in February, the 34-year-old player, captain of the Magpies, hinted that he would retire at the end of the current campaign.

The Magpies’ all-time leading scorer will serve as club manager for the eighth consecutive year while entering his 17th season. He will take on a new position this year under McRae, playing across halfback as the new Pies manager aims to freshen up the midfield with players like Brayden Maynard and Nick Daicos expected to get more time on the ball.

However, the outstanding athlete said in February, “It could be my last year as a player, I don’t know, but I’m not thinking about that. He added, “I’m thinking about having a good pre-season, which I’ve had, and getting the boys ready for the season.”

His retirement remarks are intriguing, given that Pendlebury extended his contract by two years in October 2021, keeping him through the conclusion of the 2023 campaign. But his injuries started to come more frequently than ever, and he might consider earlier retirement. 

After breaking his leg in round 19, the champion midfielder’s 2021 season was cut short. In December, Pendlebury fractured his leg again; although he has since trained again, the injury blow still haunts him.

In April 2020, Scott Pendlebury went on Twitter and did something unimaginable. He created a Twitter pole on April 10, 2020. during the Covid lockdown. A Twitter poll from Collingwood says if it receives 50,000 yes votes, the captain will bleach his hair blonde.

Jordan de Goey, one of several Magpies sporting a brilliant blonde head of hair at the moment, brought up the concept on Pendles & Co. episode. Although Scott officially promised to do it if he gets ten thousand people to vote yes, the club has raised the bar somewhat, and some prominent figures are supporting the effort.

However, even though the idea of dying his hair was brought off for pure entertainment purposes, fans on Twitter and Reddit were not fond of it as expected. A Reddit user went a harsher road saying, “I think we’ll have to simultaneously strip him of his captaincy.” Meanwhile, some fans were dying to see him in blonde hair. But to this day, the post has exceeded the 50K mark. 

Pendlebury married his everlasting girlfriend, Alex Davis Pendlebury, in 2016.

She is an Instagram model and nutritionist. The pair has two children. They recently welcomed their daughter, Darcy, in November 2019, and their first boy Jax was born in 2017.

Almost every upload of Alex’s Instagram features their two adorable little children. Jax turned five this year, whereas Darcy will celebrate his third birthday in November. Pendlebury and his wife Alex are so far entertained by the arrival of their two kids and might as well be planning for the third.

The 34-year-old midfielder believes that having a child has given him a much-needed perception of reality, making it easier for him to bear the strain of AFL. “It just takes my mind completely away from footy, and I feel fresher when I get back into the club,” he said.

Scott Pendlebury is renowned for his calm demeanor and is one of the best AFL players in the present-day league. The Collingwood captain, though, is honest in saying that it may be difficult to adapt that calm attitude to fatherhood.

The couple, married in 2016, have off-market listed their opulent Melbourne property through Fredman Property Group in a $5.75 million to $6.1 million price range in June 2022, but the sale price was not made public.

The 515 sq m house has undergone considerable modifications by the pair, including the addition of a spa and a basketball court. Prior to moving to their Elwood home, the family lived in Williamstown, Victoria. They had a stunning old Victorian single-fronted home that the couple refurbished while preserving its original façade.

Scott and Alex cherished the home since it was their first genuine residence as a couple. The house has a big backyard, allowing them to adopt Lenni, their first pet dog, who has since traveled with them from house to house. “The plan was always to do everything we possibly could to make it the best home we possibly could.”, Alex explained.

Scott Pendlebury and his wife Alex Pendlebury reportedly have a combined net worth of $7 million. The family is constantly moving their residence, buying and selling houses, and making a profit. They recently placed their Elwood mansion up for sale at around $6 million, more or less. 

Aside from this, Pendlebury has noticeable earnings from his Football League career. At the same time, his spouse, Alex, works as a nutritionist in Fit House and Dineamic Food. She also does modeling for Chadwick Models.
