NFL: David Moore Arrested For Drug and Weapon Charges On July 4th, Twitter Explodes

Over the Fourth of July weekend, Gainesville police detained NFL player David Moore. The wide receiver for the Chicago Bears and former Gainesville High School star is accused of carrying illegal firearms and possessing a controlled substance.

Officers were called to a report of a probable drunken person dozing off in a pickup truck in the Gainesville Taco Bell drive-thru in the 600 block of Medal of Honor Boulevard late on Sunday night.

An officer discovered three firearms and a package of THC edible candies, which are prohibited in Texas when searching the car.

David Moore, a former wide receiver and return specialist for the Chicago Bears, was detained on July 4 in Gainesville, Texas, on drug and weapons-related allegations. Moore posted the $5,000 bond, according to the report, and was freed the same day.

In his one appearance with the Packers during the regular season last year, Moore returned three punts for a total of 33 yards. Moore had previously played for the Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, and Las Vegas Raiders. Moore joined Green Bay’s practice squad in late December of last year, becoming his fourth club of the year.

Byron Pringle, a fellow Bears receiver, was allegedly performing donuts with a toddler in the back seat while driving recklessly and with his license revoked in Florida in April.

Linebacker Matt Adams was charged with misdemeanor handgun possession in Chicago late last month after police found a high-capacity magazine and metal-piercing rounds while searching his car.

David James Moore born January 15, 1995, is a wide receiver for the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He currently resides with his family in Gainsville, where he previously attended school, and his family is in disbelief at his arrest on unrelated drug and weapon charges.

He was originally drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the seventh round of the 2017 NFL Draft to play collegiate football at East Central University.

He had previously played for the Green Bay Packers and the Denver Broncos, respectively.

Gainesville High School was where Moore went to school and played football in high school. He had forty receptions for 700 yards and twelve touchdowns as a senior.

In Week 4 of the 2018 campaign, Moore registered his first two career receptions for a total of 39 yards against the Arizona Cardinals. He had three receptions for 38 yards and his first two career receiving touchdowns in the following game against the Los Angeles Rams..

According to the sportrac website, David Moore signed a 1 year, $1,035,000 contract with the Chicago Bears, including an average annual salary of $1,035,000. 

Moore signed a one-year, $1.04 million contract with the Chicago Bears, a division opponent of the Packers, in April. Moore’s arrest makes it the third time that a new Bears signing has been arrested before his team has been able to suit up for a game, which is unfortunate for new general manager Ryan Poles.

This past April, he agreed to a one-year contract with the Bears, joining a group that included Darnell Mooney, Byron Pringle, and recently selected Velus Jones Jr.

Moore joins linebacker Matt Adams (misdemeanor gun possession) and Pringle as the third Bears player detained this summer.
