Hayward said to the BBC: ‘It was soon after we got together, in 2012, that I noticed his suspicious manners. He would go out of the room to use his cell phone; he was pretty secretive.’
She continued: ‘I thought there was another lady. If you live with a gambling addict, you feel a third party is involved in your relationship. On his phone, I saw the same number, over and over again. It was for a betting company.’
Now that Shilton’s addiction has gone, he and his wife have been helping other youngsters to fight the condition. They participated in more than ten projects in recent years.
