Quinn Ewers Net Worth Breakdown After NIL Deal, Is He Playing Today?

The top quarterback prospect in the 2022 class and then-Ohio State commit skipped his senior high school football season to sign a $1.4 million NIL deal with GT Sports Marketing before even stepping foot in the college ranks.

Steve Sarkisian had unflinching faith in his freshman quarterback, Quinn Ewers, to the point of overconfidence. There may be no more crucial relationship in a college football program than between a head coach and his starting quarterback. And a particular one appears to be forming between Texas Longhorns freshman Quinn Ewers and head coach Steve Sarkisian.

However, after a stellar start to his Longhorns career, Ewers has begun to show signs of wear in the last two weeks, most notably on Saturday during the Longhorns’ 41-34 loss against the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Stillwater. After all, as one of the highest-rated quarterback recruits in the sport’s history, it’s challenging to envision Ewers performing worse statistically at any other point in his career, stretching back to his time at Southlake Carroll.

Ewers completed 19 49 passes (38.7 percent) for 319 yards, two touchdowns, and three interceptions. However, that is beside the point, as the Longhorns face numerous problems other than their freshman quarterback. Perhaps more than any college football head coach, Sarkisian understands quarterbacks. Look at his track record of coaching the position and placing players in the NFL. However, he may have made the incorrect decision here.

On Saturday morning, everyone saw it in Clemson. With starter DJ Uiagalelei faltering, the No. 5 Tigers and head coach Dabo Swinney made a switch in the second half, going with true freshman Cade Klubnik in an attempt to spark the offense. And it worked, as the Tigers scored 17 unanswered points on their way to a victory.

Sarkisian may have wanted the freshman to have experience pulling himself out of a hole. Perhaps, even only four games into his young Longhorns’ tenure, Sarkisian already has unflinching faith in Ewers. As of now, the answer is unknown. However, it looks to lean more toward the latter. And, while it may have lost them the game on Saturday (among other things), that is not always a negative thing.

Quinn Ewers, a former Ohio State Buckeyes freshman quarterback and outstanding five-star recruit, will likely be the most influential addition for second-year head coach Steve Sarkisian and the Texas football club this offseason.

Texas received its first commitment from the transfer portal this offseason in the form of Ewers, who committed in early December. And, with Ewers’ pledge out of the portal and the departure of former redshirt junior starting quarterback Casey Thompson, it was assumed that Sark and his staff had identified their next starter. It didn’t seem like Texas would let Ewers out of the portal if he wasn’t going to be the next starting quarterback.

While it’s evident that Ewers will be an effective key acquisition for Sark and the Longhorns anyway, they are not sure how he’ll be able to boost this team’s overall success in the victory column this coming season. Ewers must still effectively seize the reins of this offensive by the fall and demonstrate that he is capable of leading this squad in 2022.

Furthermore, it will be interesting to observe where Ewers ranks among transfer quarterbacks this offseason. Depending on who you ask, many believe Ewers to be the most significant quarterback transfer of the offseason thus far. On3’s ranking of the top quarterback transfers so far this offseason places Ewers at the top. On3 graded Ewers as the second-best quarterback transfer this offseason, trailing only rising sophomore former Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Caleb Williams.

The quick write-up for Ewers in this On3 story seemed to reflect the sentiments of most other Longhorns supporters. Whatever happens, Ewers will be designated the starting quarterback this season. It’s simply too tough to see a scenario in which rising junior quarterback Hudson Card easily earns the starting job in 2022.

The progress they have seen from Ewers over the last few months in spring training is an encouraging sign that he’s on track to win the starting job for the next season.
