Draupadi Murmu, a tribal leader and former Governor of Jharkhand, has been selected by the BJP-led NDA as the future President of India.
The next president’s election will take place on July 18, with the results being announced on July 21. According to the Election Commission, the next President will take the oath of office on July 25.
After the BJP’s parliamentary board convened to make a final decision on the Presidential candidate, Ms. Murmu’s name was announced. According to BJP Chief JP Nadda, the board examined 20 names for the position and chose to choose someone from east India, a tribal, and a woman.
Before the 2017 presidential election, Ms. Murmu was a serious contender. However, at the time, then-Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind, a Dalit, was named as the government’s nominee for the position.
