Payton S. Gendron of Conklin, New York, has been charged with first-degree murder, according to Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn. He has entered a not-guilty plea.

Authorities say the 18-year-old man who reportedly shot and murdered ten people in Buffalo, New York, was driven by hatred and targeted a store in the center of a primarily black neighborhood.

Officials say 11 of the 13 victims shot by the white suspect at Tops Friendly Market were black. People going grocery shopping, a gallant former police officer who attempted to prevent the shooter, a long-term substitute teacher, and a cab driver who “took joy in serving people” were among the fatalities, ranging from 20 to 86.

Buffalo Shooting Livestream Twitch Video 

The Buffalo shooting was shown to the public by a Livestream Twitch video. The Buffalo suspect, a self-described white supremacist who reportedly shot 11 black and also two white victims, killing ten in what investigators called a racially motivated hate crime, utilized a Twitch account to live stream the assault via a helmet camera.

Twitch, which Amazon owns, claimed it removed the video two minutes after the violence began, but it had already been shared elsewhere, including on Facebook and Twitter.

The shooter announced his plans ahead of time, including by creating a to-do agenda on the chat platform Discord, which meant that some of his followers were prepared to download the footage as it was being aired.
