Sam Bennett is an American top amateur golfer who is a part of Texas A&M University’s Men’s Golf team member.

In 2020-2021, Sam was in a junior class where he garnered PING First-Team All-America honors. He was then voted to all-sec first team by the league’s head coaches, where he became a semifinalist for the Ben Hogan Award. 

For the 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup, Sam was named to Team USA, and he earned a trio of victories at Cabo Collegiate, Old Waverly Collegiate, and The Aggie Invitational. He completed the season with a 70.53 scoring average, which was the second-lowest average in the school history.

In March, Sam was named the National Golfer of the Month by the Ben Hogan Award, and he earned a spot on the 2021 All-Nicklaus Team. After that, he went undefeated in the match to play at the SEC Championship, posting victories over Georgia’s Spencer Ralston (3&2) and Arkansas Julian Perico (4&3).

At the NCAA Albuquerque Regional, Sam was tied for second and, after that, tied for fifth at the Border Olympics and posted top-20 finishes at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate and SEC Championship.

In his freshman year 2018-2019, Sam finished in 11 of the team’s 12 events and was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team as well as Division I PING All-Central Region Team. He made his collegiate debut at the Shoal Creek Invitational in the fall. 

Sam was tied for fourth out of an 88-player field, shooting 4-under in his first collegiate tournament. He was A&M’s Men’s Golf team’s second-highest finisher at the Arizona Intercollegiate, shooting five-under to tie for 16th in his regular-season tournament. 

After a tough-fought battle in the quarterfinals of match play, he earned his first match play win against Arkansas on the final hole in the semifinals at SEC Championships.

In Sam’s Sophomore year in 2019-2020, he earned PING honorable mention All-America honors, as well as second-team All-SEC honors, after a strong sophomore championship. He missed his two fall tournaments due to an injury but still completed the year with four top 20 performances.

Sam even led his team with a 71.17 scoring average and posted eight rounds of 70 or better, and his best completion was a tie for third at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate. He also posted a tie for the fifth at the San Diego Classic, where he was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
