He Is General Manager Of SmackDown
Teddy Long was appointed SmackDown’s new first African-American general manager in July 2004 after Kurt Angle was fired from his job. When Long penalized Angle $1,000 for being absent of his wrestling equipment on his first night as general manager, he quickly lost his cool.
Long used The Boogeyman to defeat Eric Bischoff, the general manager of Raw, at Survivor Series as part of the SmackDown! vs. Raw storyline. However, Booker T and his defense of the United States Championship caused complications for Long.
Booker T often tried to avoid title defenses by feigning injury and having other wrestlers fight on his behalf. Long eventually had enough of these shenanigans, and at No Way, Out Booker was given the ultimatum: face Chris Benoit or lose the championship.
