Bambi Haggins graduated from the University of California with a master's in art, cinema, and television. Additionally, she earned a master's in arts and education from Stanford University.

At the University of California, Los Angeles, she also received a Ph.D. in cinema and television. She started out as an associate professor of screen arts and cultures at the University of Michigan.

She served as an associate professor of film and media studies at Arizona State University from 2009 until 2017.
