Elena Kagan is the second of three children of Robert Kagan and Gloria Kagan. Her father is an attorney who represented tenants trying to stay in their homes. And her mother taught at Hunter College Elementary School.

Both her parents were the children of Russian Jewish immigrants. Moving into, he has two brothers, March and Irving.

She was elected president of the student government and served on a student-faculty consultative committee. 1980, she received Princeton’s daniel M.Saxhs Class of 1960 Graduating Scholarship, one of the highest general awards the university confers.

When was 23, she entered Harvard Law School. After law school, she was a law clerk for Judge Abner J. Mikva of the US. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit from 1987 to 1988.

President Obama nominated her to the Supreme Court to fill the vacancy arising from the impending retirement of Justice John Paul Stevens. The United States Senate confirmed her nomination by a vote of 63-67.

She has never married. There were rumors about her that she is a lesbian. But her friend Sarah Walzer has criticized the rumors.
