Jess Sergis, 2019 Dally M Award recipient, called it quits on her romance with long-term partner Zac Lomax.

The two were together for quite some time, rumored to start dating in 2018 and have been in a relationship for more than three years before officially ending their courtship early this year. 

Following her split with Australian professional rugby league footballer Zac Lomax, Jess Sergis is now a single woman. Though she did not have an ideal start to the year due to her breakup with her partner, she has had a fantastic year.

The elite NRLW player attended three to four times a week of rugby practice in addition to her regular job as a childcare team member in Wollongong. Later, at the start of 2021, she decided to change careers and work as a teacher’s assistant, which had an earlier dismissal time of 3 pm and better suited her lifestyle.

Sergis has more free time available now, and she has thoroughly managed her time to suit her the best, balancing both her footballing career and a part-time job.”You want to try to be a professional athlete but you’ve got to juggle full-time work as well, where you can’t really leave early to head to training or anything like that,” she said. 

Despite the shortened year, Sergis expressed excitement for the increased visibility it will provide women’s rugby league, and so far, she has been doing well both on and off the field.

She spent three seasons with the Illawarra Dragons, where she made the 2019 NRLW grand final. Currently, she is at the Roosters. She joined the Roosters in an effort to advance her career and went out of her comfort zone to try a new challenge. It’s a professional workplace, she remarked, and the girls greeted her with open arms. She added that the team had come together well.

The introduction of a pay-hard salary cap, which would increase yearly earnings by 28%, was proposed by the Ampol Women’s State of Origin. The Australian Rugby League Council approves it.

For the 2022 season, NRLW clubs will use a salary cap system with a $350,000 cap per team. With more wage cap clearance, teams will ultimately be permitted to hire up to two-star players.

Jess Sergis was born Jessica Sergis on September 15, 1997, to Australian parents. She was born and raised in Sydney, New South Wales, along with his two siblings.

When he was younger, his brother Brandon played rugby, which he continued to do until he eventually gave up. She was into rugby when she was five and wanted to play the game. But at that time, only boys were supposed to play rugby because of its physical nature.

Her parents were also not a fan of her will to play rugby during her early days. Although Sergis yearned to play football, and they wanted to encourage her passion for the game, they all believed it had grown too risky. She recalls crying at the time.

Sergis persuaded her father, Paul, to accompany her to their neighborhood Coogee club, where her brother played, so she could “have a go,” but when they got there, she discovered that she was the only female among a sea of males.

Back then, girls could only participate in mixed teams until they were 12. As a result, her goal of playing rugby league ended, and she began searching for another competitive endeavor. Her mother took her around to numerous sporting events and practice sessions nonstop.

Her father is still a benchmark, just like he was when she was a young girl. When she calls for counsel, Paul will give her the straight dope. “He has always had a significant effect on my career and is my go-to man; he’s probably the only reason I play.” the athlete stated.
