Why Was Ilhan Omar Arrested Again? Siblings And Husbands List, Is She Religious?

Ilhan Omar, a congresswoman from Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District was detained on Tuesday in Washington, D.C., according to WCCO Political Analyst Blois Olson.

Omar disagreed with the Supreme Court’s ruling to reverse Roe v. Wade. After that decision, she released a statement expressing her appreciation for Minnesota’s protection of abortion rights and her belief that the Senate’s ratification of the Women’s Health Act was their moral obligation.

Omar’s office said earlier in the day that the congresswoman would participate in a demonstration against the overthrow of Roe v. Wade on Tuesday before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Politician Ilhan Omar Arrested Outside Supreme Court

Rep. Ilhan Omar was detained on Tuesday while holding a protest outside the Supreme Court, according to her staff, who spoke to WCCO. The newest Roe v. Wade overturning in the courts was the cause of the protest.

Congresspeople Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Alma Adams, D-N.C., among others, were detained by Capitol Police during an abortion rights demonstration on Tuesday afternoon outside the Supreme Court building.

Missouri’s Rep. Cori Bush shared a photo of the demonstration with fellow lawmakers Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib.

Following the court’s ruling, the U.S. House last week passed two bills that would restore abortion rights nationally, but the Republican-controlled Senate is unlikely to approve them.

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar Religion – Is She Muslim?

Ilhan Omar and her family left the civil war in Somalia when she was a little kid, spending four years in a refugee camp before being granted asylum in the U.S. She obtained U.S. citizenship in 2000. Omar was chosen to serve in Congress as Minnesota’s 5th district representative in 2018 as the first Muslim representative.

She entered the U.S. House as the first Somali American and one of the country’s first two Muslim women. She is the first person to introduce legislation while donning the headscarf on the House floor.

Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party of Minnesota member Omar is a progressive politician. 2020 saw the release of her autobiography; This is What America Looks Like: My Journey from Refugee to Congresswoman.

The youngest of seven children, Omar, lost her mother when he was only two years old. Her father, sisters, and aunts took care of her after this loss. Omar was raised in Mogadishu at the compound of her middle-class family, where her grandfather did not strictly impose gender restrictions.

Details About Ilhan Omar’s Husbands 

In a religious ceremony, Omar wed her first spouse, Ahmed Abdisalan Hirsi, in 2002. The couple’s relationship deteriorated after having two children, a son and a daughter named Isra and Adnan. They terminated the union in 2008 according to Islamic law (they had not been legally married).

After her marriage ended in 2008, Omar struggled to cope and shaved her head. In 2009, Omar fled with British national Ahmed Nur Said Elmi. Elmi is the man who has been claimed to be her brother without any supporting evidence.

Omar and Elmi’s marriage dissolved in 2011 through a religious divorce. Omar and Hirsi, with whom she had daughter Ilwad, their third child, reconciled in 2012. After divorcing Elmi, Omar formally wed Hirsi in January 2018.
