Truss made several unsuccessful bids to run for office during the 2000s. Still, in 2010, she was finally successful in her bid for a seat in the House of Commons. In 2012, Truss was appointed the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Education and Childcare. She also handled roles linked to the environment, food, and rural affairs.

During her campaign, Truss has referred to the expertise she gained during her time in these positions. She has held the Secretary of Foreign Affairs or Foreign Minister position since September 2021, the highest-ranking and most prestigious position she has ever held.

Throughout the current conflict in Ukraine, Truss has served as the United Kingdom’s Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs. She frequently invoked sanctions against Russia and harshly condemned Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In addition, she has been in charge of negotiating Brexit with the EU, despite casting a vote against leaving the EU in the referendum that took place in 2016. She later admitted that she was incorrect and now values the “opportunities” that have arisen as a direct result of her mistake.

Her younger brother mentioned that the family used to enjoy playing board games like Clue and Monopoly. However, the young Ms. Truss intensely disliked losing and would frequently leave the table rather than take a chance on not coming out on top.
