In an interview with Elizabeth Smart for Crime Watch Daily, St. Clair County Patrol Division Lieutenant Michael Hundelt says Samson was only considered a minor lead in early investigations.

Shelton gave false testimony during his initial interrogation, claiming he had not seen Reeves in days. But the assaulter kept changing his story multiple times, so the investigators became alert.

The assaulter’s web of lies began to untangle when it was revealed he was with Reeves the day of her disappearance. After a 12-hour interrogation, Shelton finally confessed to attacking Reeves and leaving her for dead.

Did Ashley and Samson Shelton Have A Wedding?

Ashley Reeves and Samson Shelton never had a wedding. However, they were said to be in a relationship. Ashley was in a seemingly happy relationship with Jeremy Smith when the incident occurred in late April 2006.

The couple had been together for about two years and appeared to be truly in love, as he kept appreciating every aspect of her.

Ashley had a private relationship with Samson Shelton, her former seventh-grade teacher. When Ashley went missing, the police tried to focus on Jeremy because he was considered the closest to her.

The police were led to Samson Shelton by the pieces of information they had acquired. Jeremy could not believe the two were more than friends, even though her friends disagreed.

After the incident, the survivor preferred to keep her personal life private. So, whether Ashley has a partner, is married, or is in any other form of relationship is unknown.

Based on her 2017 interview, she is said to have a stable and happy life as a working mother of two.

Survivor Story of Ashley Reeves

Ashley Reeves has gone through a huge trauma and resilience. According to Daily Journal, 17-year-old Ashley Reeves disappeared on April 27, 2006, and was found more than a day later in a park, clinging to life.

She had been choked, had her neck broken, and was barely breathing when authorities discovered her. After an investigation, police charged Samson Shelton, a 26-year-old high school teacher who knew Reeves, with the crime. They met when she was in middle school and eventually began a romantic relationship.

Ashley claimed that she sustained her injuries during a fight with Shelton while trying to break up with him. Shelton retaliated that he was the one to initiate the breakup but otherwise confirmed much of Reeves’ story.

Samson told authorities that he tried to push her out of a moving car, and with a cracked neck, he took her to the park “to make it look like she was strangled there.” He was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2007 after pleading guilty to attempted first-degree murder.
