Gabriel Sterling Testimony On Jan 6 Hearing

On June 21, Georgia Secretary of State Gabriel Sterling, the chief operating officer, will speak at the fourth Jan. 6 committee meeting.

Sterling is a well-known voting official in Georgia, where he assisted in the handling of the 2020 presidential election and recount, in which Donald Trump was narrowly defeated by Joe Biden. As a result, Trump and his supporters focused on the state as an example of their fraudulent and unsubstantiated voter fraud charges.

Because Biden’s margin was so slim, Georgia examined the vote tally and conducted a recount of the votes. Sterling repeatedly stated that allegations of election law infractions were taken seriously by his staff, but the state eventually discovered no widespread fraud.

However, Trump continued to make bogus charges of fraud, causing concern among state officials that people would retaliate violently. Sterling gave an impassioned press conference in early December 2020, condemning Trump’s efforts to overturn the election and pleading with him to stop claiming fraud.
