Bell was allowed to train with the State College Spikes by the Pirates, but as the season finished, he did not play any games with the Spikes in 2011. Bell took part in the Pirates’ autumn training league.

Washington Nationals

The Pirates dealt Bell to the Washington Nationals on December 24, 2020, in exchange for Wil Crowe and Eddy Year. Bell and the Nationals avoided salary arbitration by agreeing on a $6.35 million contract for the 2021 season. Bell hit his first home run with the Nationals on April 20, 2021. He played 144 games in 2021, batting.261/.347/.476 with 27 home runs and 88 RBIs.

San Diego Padre

On August 20, 2022, Bell hit his first home run for the Padres against the Nationals.
