Josh Bell Career Highlights
Bell was allowed to train with the State College Spikes by the Pirates, but as the season finished, he did not play any games with the Spikes in 2011. Bell took part in the Pirates’ autumn training league.
Before the 2012 season, MLB.com ranked Bell as baseball’s 69th most excellent prospect. In 2012, he made his professional debut with the Class A South Atlantic League’s West Virginia Power.
Pittsburgh Pirates
On July 8, 2016, the Pirates elevated Bell to the major leagues. He blasted a grand slam in his second MLB at-bat on July 9, marking his MLB debut that evening as a pinch hitter. On July 16, he was optioned back to Indianapolis, and on August 20, he was recalled. Bell batted.273 in 128 at-bats for Pittsburgh, driving 19 and hitting three home runs.
Washington Nationals
The Pirates dealt Bell to the Washington Nationals on December 24, 2020, in exchange for Wil Crowe and Eddy Year. Bell and the Nationals avoided salary arbitration by agreeing on a $6.35 million contract for the 2021 season. Bell hit his first home run with the Nationals on April 20, 2021. He played 144 games in 2021, batting.261/.347/.476 with 27 home runs and 88 RBIs.

On August 20, 2022, Bell hit his first home run for the Padres against the Nationals.

Josh Bell agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal with the Washington Nationals, which included a $10 million guarantee and an average annual salary of $10 million. Bell will have a base income of $10,000,000 and a compensation of $10 million in 2022. The San Diego Padres have paid Bell an adjusted salary of $3,516,480.
