Where Is Joe Turner Now? Jordan Cooper Murderer And Case Update

In March 2022, Friday, Joe Turner received a 55-year state prison sentence from Judge Steven Whittington. Turner entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder, sexual battery, and burglary with an assault on March 10, 2022.

His guilty plea removed the possibility of the death penalty being sought by the state. Turner was classified as a sexual predator as well.

Following the court’s decision, Cooper’s father shared his thoughts in an exclusive interview with Jax while speaking outside the Clay County Courthouse.

Jeff Cooper said, “I’m happy. Fifty-five years–that’s a lifetime anyway.” But he told Action News Jax he is still trying to make sense of her death four years later. “It’s just one of those things that just happened and I can’t put— was probably the hardest thing for me was putting in my mind is why and how it happened.”

Jeff referred to his daughter Jordan as the “brightest star” and described her as the love of his life. He was one of several members of Jordan’s family who stood up to speak while executing the killer’s sentence.

Joe Turner, the killer, also spoke during sentencing. He directly addressed Cooper’s family members and apologized for his deeds. 

“Nothing I can say or do will ever bring Jordan back,” he said to Cooper’s father and brother. “I just wanted to apologize. Sincerely apologize, say I’m sorry, to Todd and Jeff. I’m sorry.”

According to Jordan’s family, the 25-year-old lady had the mental capacity of a young adolescent. Her mother reported the missing to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office on November 26, 2017. Afterward, the local police department started a massive search operation.

Detectives discovered Cooper dead and concealed a home’s attic insulation two weeks later. Her clothes and bedding were discovered near her body, but her underwear was absent. Moreover, they found a used adhesive bandage.

The medical examiner noted that Cooper had cuts and scraps on her legs, neck, and chest. According to an autopsy, Cooper’s death was asphyxiation, and a sexual assault kit was gathered.

Turner was the only suspect in a separate burglary, and grand theft investigation as the search for a suspect went on. In December 2017, Turner was detained by the police on those allegations.

At the time, he was hiding in his home’s attic, and after giving permission, police searched there and discovered a bag of women’s clothing with a pair of women’s underwear.

A search warrant was carried out, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement took the pair of underwear for examination. Cooper’s DNA was matched in the underwear.

Moreover, Turner’s DNA matched those obtained from the Sexual Assault Kit and the adhesive bandage. Following the test result, Turner was put in custody.

The details about Joe Turner’s family have not been revealed. The man lived nearby to Jordan Cooper in Keystone Heights, Florida. He was sentenced to 55 years in Florida State Prison on the charge of murdering and sexually assaulting Jordan.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office looked into the matter. Pam Hazel, an assistant state attorney, handled the prosecution.
