Brit Davis is the wife of AFL star Joel Selwood. Many people know her as Brit Selwood, but she only took her husband’s name after their official marriage in 2020. This week there have been multiple events in the Selwood family that were worth celebrating. The couple celebrated the 30th birth of Brit on 4 September 2022. Just a week later, they announced their child via Instagram. Joel was born on 26 May 1988, making him 34 years old in 2022. The couple has an age gap of 4 years, but it doesn’t seem evident while looking at them together. 

Throughout the years, the Selwood couple has stood together, being a pillar of support for each other. They have gone through lots of ups and downs in their life. The news of their first baby has filled their life with more joy than a regular couple as they had been trying to have a baby in past years but were failing due to fertility issues.

The couple posted a picture on their respective Instagram profile revealing their pregnancy on Sunday evening. Joel is seen holding up a miniature football shirt with his player number and the word “dad” inscribed across the back in a picture. While all was going on, Britt was radiant as she beamed for the camera while revealing her tiny baby bump in a summery whitish outfit. After years of fertility issues, she stated their hopes had finally come true, and she expressed her concern for any couples who were through a similar situation.

The seed of their beautiful relationship was laid in 2015 when they met through a mutual friend. The brit and Joel exchanged phone numbers shortly after falling madly in love. After dating for almost three years, the couple got engaged in 2018. 

The couple married in January 2020 amid an extravagant wedding in a secluded home outside Geelong in Victoria. Brit chose two gowns from Elie Saab and Paolo Sebastian, while Selwood wore a suit from Hugo Boss and praised Laura from Weddings of Desire for her aid on their big day.

Before their wedding, they exchanged vows in a ceremony that was meant to be humorous. Through a video produced for a Geelong travel agency, they gave their guests a preview of what to anticipate on the day.

The AFL couple struggled to become a parent, but their prayers have been heard as they announced their pregnancy on 11 September via Instagram. They said they were blessed to have someone who would call them dad and mum.

They tried a lot since 2020 to have a baby, but everything failed, and they even mentioned that the couple started to become hopeless after many unsuccessful incidents. However, their life has again filled with happiness and joy as the couple is ready to welcome the firstborn next year.

Joel represents the Geelong Football Club in the Australian Football League as a professional AFL player. In 2015, he received backlash for attempting a deadly tackle against his opponent, Sam Wright, in an AFL match. Before that, he had also faced a match ban for a similar reason.

However, he had learnt his lesson, and after the 2015 incident, he never attempted the chicken wing tackle in a professional match. Selwood has led Geelong since 2012, holds the team’s record for games played, and has been awarded the Carji Greeves Medal for being the team’s best and fairest player. Despite a shady past, he has won three Premierships, been named to the All-Australian team six times, and served as captain three times.

Selwood has received praise for his demonstrated leadership qualities, extreme bravery, and career-long consistency. He has won the AFLPA Robert Rose Most Courageous Player Award four times. He also received the AFLPA Best Captain Award. He was only 23 years old when he was named captain.

Every complete season of his career, except his rookie year, he appeared in at least 20 games. Almost the course of his career, he averaged over 24 disposals per game. For 11 straight seasons, he received double-digit votes for the Brownlow, including 27 votes in 2013, when he finished second. Selwood is exceptional at eluding defenders and obtaining free kicks. He also makes the most tackles in VFL/AFL history, averaging roughly five each game.
