Katherine Magbanua is yet to be featured on Wikipedia despite being found guilty of murdering Dan Markel, a law professor and attorney from Canada.
For her involvement in the murder of FSU law professor Dan Markel, Katherine Magbanua was given a life sentence without having the possibility of parole or probation on July 292022, 8 years after committing the crime.

Katherine Magbanua is a 34-year-old individual who Florida police believe sponsored Dan Markel’s homicide for-enlistment scheme on July 19, 2014. Magbanua was found guilty in May of first-degree murder and associated charges of solicitation and conspiracy. She received a 60-year term for several charges and the mandatory life sentence for murder.

Magbanua is the third defendant in the case to be found guilty. In July 2014, authorities think Dan Markel was the victim of a murder for hire motivated by a contentious custody dispute over his two children. In October 2019, Sigfredo Garcia’s trial resulted in a conviction and a life sentence. Magbanua was the one who pulled the trigger to kill Markel.
As part of a plea agreement in exchange for evidence against the other defendants, his companion Luis Rivera is currently serving a 19-year term. In his testimony, Rivera stated that he and Garcia went to Tallahassee to carry out the murder and were each paid $100,000 in cash when they returned to Miami.

In October 2019, Magbanua’s initial trial for the murder of Markel resulted in a mistrial. However, another case trial was scheduled for May 27, 2022, as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. After eight hours of jury deliberation, Magbanua sobbed as the guilty findings against her were read aloud in court on May 27.

Magbanua was sentenced to life in prison for first-degree murder after the Markel family provided a victim impact statement, plus an additional 60 years for conspiring to kill and soliciting to kill. For all of the charges, those were the maximum punishments. In addition, she was charged with serving as a point of contact between Sigfredo Garcia and Charles Charlie Adelson.
Wendi Adelson was married to Markel at one point. Charlie Adelson is the sister of Wendi, who had planned every step of the murder. In connection with the death of Markel, Charlie Adelson was detained in April and charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and encouragement to commit murder.
