Kayla Hodgson Tamarac Case Update, Complete Timeline and Recent Arrests

In connection with the death of Kayla Hodgson, 23, in Tamarac last month, police have detained a New York woman Sakiyna Thompson, according to authorities.

On July 13, Kayla Hodgson passed away in her residence close to the 9300 block of Northwest 57th Street. Deputies in Broward County have not yet reported an arrest in the case.

Homicide detectives from the Broward Sheriff’s Office were spotted gathering information at the Tamarac Village Apartment complex for a second night in a row in Tamarac, where Hodgson’s body was discovered inside her apartment on Wednesday.

In connection with the death of Kayla Hodgson, 23, in Tamarac last month, police have detained a New York woman, according to authorities. The New York Police Department arrested Sakiyna Thompson, 28, on Wednesday in Springfield Gardens, Queens, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

On July 25, Broward officials acquired a warrant for Thompson’s arrest. According to deputies, Thompson is anticipated to be returned to Broward County for extradition, where she will be charged with first-degree murder.

On Thursday, there was no instant access to Thompson’s mugshot. The Department of Corrections for the City of New York said that she was being imprisoned at the Rose M. Singer Center on Rikers Island. Although it is unknown where Thompson lived at the time of the murder, records indicate that she is a native of Jamaica.

When deputies arrived on the scene, Hodgson was already dead. When the complex’s residents returned home, a thorough inquiry was underway. Some people expressed concern for their safety.

Detectives looking into homicide are still looking into the circumstances of her passing. Seven hours after the body was discovered, at around 10 p.m., investigators started cleaning up the crime scene.
