Hosts of far-right media outlet Counterspin, Kelvyn Alp, and Hannah Spierer were arrested on Thursday, August 25, 2022.

The Counterspin Media is New Zealand’s Far-right based show. It streams on the Steve Bannon-led GTV network and provides news. However, the contents of the media have often been described as insignificant and fake.

Why Were Kelvyn Alp and Hannah Spierer Arrested?

Kelvyn Alp and Hannah Spierer were arrested for distributing objectionable materials.

The police did not name Alp and Spierer, however, they confirmed two people, a man, and a woman, were on taken into custody Thursday night in Christchurch. They also noted that the two people failed to allow the officers to search their computers.

For many years, Counterspin’s contents have been accused of sharing insignificant sources of fake news and misinformation.

Earlier this year, Counterspin had posted online excerpts from the March 15 terrorist’s Livestream. The hosts were also involved in the anti-mandate movement that includes the 23-day occupation on parliament grounds. 

The pair have also discussed controversial subjects like moon landings, Covid-19 vaccines, the Christchurch massacre, and many more. 

Very recently, Counterspin Media’s primary Instagram account was deleted from the service. The profile was removed after Alp posted a clip calling for violence against the politicians and governments.

Charges On Counterspin Media Hosts Kelvyn Alp and Hannah Spierer

Kelvyn Alp and Hannah Spierer were bailed on Thursday, August 25, 2022. They will appear in the Christchurch District Court on August 31.

In a statement released by the police, the two people detained will be charged with violations of the Films, Videos, and Publications Classification Act 1993. The act controls how games, commercial video-on-demand entertainment, and publications like movies are categorized in New Zealand.

As per the court records, the arrested man is charged with double counts of distributing an objectionable publication. In addition, he is accused of breaching his duty in connection with a computer search.

The detained woman has also been accused of hindering law enforcement, distributing undesirable material, and failing to fulfill her obligations in connection with a computer search.

Anybody who knowingly distributes, or displays an objectionable publication via the Internet can receive a maximum of 14 years of jail. 

Who Are Kelvyn Alp and Hannah Spierer?

Kelvyn Alp and Hannah Spierer are media personalities from New Zealand. They are far-right activists.

Alp was a former army and a leader of the Direct Democracy Party of New Zealand. He had many failed political campaigns in past, including the Mayor for Manukau City in 2007, and the Te Tai Tokerau by-election in 2011.
