He finished the year 10-4 with a 2.10 earned run average (ERA) and 142 strikeouts, making him the title of Twins minor league pitcher of the year.  The Wichita Wind Surge was the beginning of 2022 for Varland. On September 7, he made his major league debut with the Twins.
