Rachael Haynes and her wife Leah Poulton welcomed their first baby, Hugo Poulton-Haynes, on October 1, 2021.

Her absence from the historical pink-ball Test match against India was revealed earlier owing to a hamstring ailment. Haynes was scheduled to go with Australia to face India; however, she was forced to withdraw from the series after suffering a hamstring strain in the first ODI at Mackay’s Harrup Park.

Haynes, who recently announced her retirement from cricket, gave birth to her first child with partner Leah Poulton only a few days after a hamstring injury prevented her from participating in a Test and forced her to leave the India series in Queensland early.

“While disappointed to miss the Test, yesterday fate took hold and we welcomed Hugo Poulton-Haynes into the world,” she said after Hugo was born. 

Despite being aware of the restrictive quarantine guidelines, Haynes, 34, said back in August that she would not miss the delivery of her kid and would be returning to her hometown.

At the start of the Day-Night Test at the Carrara Oval in Queensland last year, she was with the Australian team. But she went back to her Sydney home to be with her wife, who was about to give birth any day. Haynes shared a sweet photo on social media to express her gratitude for her family despite missing the Test match against India after becoming a mom.

Many cricketers have expressed their blessings for the better health of the mother and child and congratulated the couple on their first baby born. Cricket Australia’s official Twitter page wrote, “Congratulations to @RachaelHaynes and Leah on the arrival of Hugo!”
