Who Is Ryan Busse?

Ryan Busse is a former firearms executive who helped build one of the most iconic gun companies in the world and has been nominated multiple times by industry peers for the prestigious Shooting Industry Person of the Year award.

The author was born in western Kansas and grew up on a high plains ranch. He started hunting, fishing, and exploring at an early age. After graduating, he pursued a career in the outdoor industry, where he is an award-winning executive.

He helped turn a small gun company named Kimber into an internationally recognized brand. The former firearms executive’s advocacy for public lands and conservation created a rift between him and the firearms industry, which eventually exposed the industry’s authoritarian power structure that does not tolerate independent thinking or deviations from industry dogma.

This book is a story of how authoritarianism spreads in the guise of freedom and how voicing one’s conscience becomes an act of treason in a culture that demands loyalty. “Gunfight” is in no way a book about “anti-gun.” Rather, it’s an insider’s inspection of how and why the firearms industry has evolved from a sports-centric business to a policy-driven machine that uses determination and fear to increase profits exponentially.

Ryan has served as an advisor to the Congressional Sportsman’s Caucus, as Board of Directors Chair for Montana Conservation Voters, and as Board Chair for Back Country Hunters and Anglers.
