Samantha Herrera claims John McAfee, the man she dated, is still alive. She asserts the tech mogul has faked his death by bribing the officials in the jails. Although, she is not clear where McAfee could be in the present day.
In the last interview on Netflix’s Running with the Devil, Herrera was asked when she was in the last touch with McAfee. She responded as quoted in the New York Post:
“I don’t know if I should say. But two weeks ago, after his death, I got a call from Texas. It’s me, John. I paid off people to pretend that I am dead, but I am not dead.” Herrera then added that McAfee stated there are only three people who know about him. She also said that the mogul wanted her to run away with him, but she was ditched by McAfee, who married Janice Dyson instead.
After Herrera made unexpected allegations, including Charlie Russell, the director of Running with the Devil, everyone is shocked to learn that McAfee might still be alive.
Russell said as quoted in The New York Post: “I don’t know what I think and I don’t think she does. She says it, then she looks at the camera, and I can’t work out whether she thinks it’s real or not. She’s someone who was very angry at John.”
He continued: “John promised them a life together and I think they were genuinely in love, despite the huge age difference, I think he offered her a real different future, then he literally ditched her at the border and I think that’s very painful for her and it’s taken her years to get over that.”

According to Samantha, she and McAfee were living in San Pedro, Belize. They started dating when she was only eighteen years old.

Prior to his death, McAfee had been tweeting cryptically that it would not be suicide if he was discovered dead in jail.
The software tycoon tweeted on October 15, 2020: “I am content in here. I have friends. The food is good. All is well.“Know that if I hang myself, a la Epstein, it will be no fault of mine.”
