Is Samirah Muzaffar Free Now? Cradle Fund CEO Husband Nazrin Hassan Murder

Samirah Muzaffar and two teens were charged with the murder of Cradle Fund chief executive officer Nazrin at their Mutiara Damansara residence on June 14, 2018.

The trio is suspected of murdering the victim and then attempting to cover it up by setting the building on fire.

Judge Datuk Ab Karim Ab Rahman of the High Court determines in favor of the prosecution, ruling that there is a prima facie case against Samirah. She will have to defend herself and prove that she did not commit the crime.

The same for the two boys, who were 13 and 16 years old at the time of the murder and can only be named by their age and gender because they were minors at the time.

The charge, which is based on Section 302 of the Penal Code and read in conjunction with Section 34, carries a mandatory death penalty.

Is Samirah Muzaffar Free Now?

The High Court will decide today whether Samirah Muzaffar will be released or called to defend charges for the murder of Nazrin Hassan, Cradle Fund Chief Executive Officer (CEO) four years ago.

If the court rules in favor of the prosecution, Samirah, 47, and the two teens will have to defend themselves, however, if the court rules against the prosecution, they will be released.

The case was scheduled to be decided on May 30, but after hearing pleas, Judge Ab Karim postponed it to June 21.

Samirah was arrested together with two other teenagers, ages 19 and 16, and an Indonesian citizen who is still on the loose.

Eka Wahyu Lestari is accused of murdering Nazrin, 47, at a residence in Mutiara Damansara between 11:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. on June 13, 2018.

Eliza Elias, the prosecution’s 29th witness, is a close friend of Nazrin. Eliza said in court that she frequently observed Nazrin irritated after talking on the phone with Samirah and that he had complained about his wife’s spendthrift attitude to the point of considering divorce.

Eliza also testified that Nazrin’s first wife’s son, Juan, had a strained connection with Samirah and had been told by his stepmother that he wasn’t welcome at the family home.

Cradle Fund CEO Nazrin Hassan Murder Case And 2 Teenagers Involved

Nazrin’s death was initially linked to a fire that broke out in his bedroom on June 14, 2018, which was reported to have begun when the phone next to him burst.

After the investigation process from the Fire and Rescue Department and post-mortem examinations suggested foul play, the case was classed as murder on August 6, 2018.

Petrol traces were discovered on Nazrin’s body, head, as well as the bed and pillow he was resting on in the bedroom where he was discovered.

Nazrin’s body was exhumed for a second autopsy four months after he died. He died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head, according to the findings.

A blunt object, such as a hammer or archery equipment, was claimed to have produced the depressions on his head. The prosecution refuted the theory that Nazrin died in a fire started by an exploding cellphone.

The prosecution argued for prima facie because of the “irregular” burn patterns in the room, which led investigators to assume the fire was not accidental but intentional.

Investigators also noticed that the bedroom could be secured from the outside, which it was when first responders arrived at the scene, raising the potential that Nazrin had been trapped in and unable to leave.

There was also a bag of pyrotechnics in the room. The burning bed appeared to have been struck by fireworks, according to Damansara Fire & Rescue Department fireman Stanley Sigau Nyalang.
