Sumati developed an early interest in yoga and meditation. Her parents met Swami Satchidananda when she was five years old, and she began meditating at the age of eleven.
Sumati had left her parents’ house around the age of fifteen and begun living at the Yogaville Ashram.
Doc was already a follower of the teachings there. Doc, a prominent figure at the ashram, managed a zoo nearby. Sumati revealed on the television that she had sex with Doc on her sixteenth birthday.
But first, they wedded in a spiritual wedding ceremony at his home.

Sumati Steinberg is 53 years of age meanwhile Tilakam is expected to be 37 years old.

She appears to live with her family in Salt Lake City, Utah, now that she is a grandma to three children.

Sumati understood she was in a relationship she didn’t want to be a part of as the years passed with Doc.
Sumati revealed in the episode that Doc was violent and abusive to her on several occasions.
She reported that at least four times she honestly believed Doc losing his cool meant her death.
