An ongoing dispute between two of Paul Newman’s children and the late actor’s philanthropic organization, which is supported by sales of the Newman’s Own line of food and drink goods, has been made public by a recent lawsuit.
Susan Kendall Newman and Nell Newman, the daughters of Newman, claim that Newman’s Own Foundation illegally reduced its required payments to their respective organizations from $400,000 each per year to $200,000 each.
They sued in state court in Stamford, Connecticut, and demanded that $1.6 million in damages be paid to their respective organizations for philanthropic contributions.

The daughters claim that their father, who founded Newman’s Own Foundation three years before he passed away in 2008, granted the foundation permission to use his name and likeness in exchange for several requirements, one of which was to donate $400,000 annually to each of the two daughters’ foundations.
Nell Newman of California and Susan Kendall Newman of Oregon are concerned that the foundation is laying the groundwork for fully eliminating their ability to influence how some of the income from Newman’s Own products are given to charities.
Furthermore, they claimed that the foundation had been “contradicting” their father’s intentions and wishes for many years.
