Police said a man doused the woman with a liquid substance before lighting it on fire. The attack occurred after a string of recent violent occurrences on Toronto’s transportation system.
The TTC was encouraged by unions representing the city’s transit workers to increase the number of officers patrolling its stations after a man was stabbed in the neck while standing on the platform at St. George station in April.
However, reports claim that the woman who suffered from second and third-degree burns and was rushed to the hospital has died.

The 20-year-old woman was assisted by TTC staff, onlookers, firefighters, police, and TTC special constables before being taken by EMS to the hospital. Police stated in a tweet that the victim was experiencing “serious burn-related injuries” at the time of the incident.

On Monday afternoon, Norbu briefly appeared in court via video link. The victim’s family, who cannot be identified due to a publication ban, witnessed the appearance on camera as well. He is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday.
