Luke Hoyer and 16 other pupils and teachers were killed in a high school massacre in Florida over four and a half years ago. Luke was the son of Tom and Gena Hoyer. The Parkland massacre has meant more to the Hoyers than just personal grief.
It was a more extensive narrative about American gun violence and school safety. Shortly after Luke passed away, they established the Luke Hoyer Athletic Fund, which helps foster kids in Broward County with the fees of participating in sports. Nikolas Cruz was the shooter at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in February 2018.
