Born and raised in Long Beach, California, Charlyn was a graduate of Long Beach State College. A selfless woman, as described by her son, Charlyn was as into her son’s career as her husband, Kenneth, with whom she tied the knot in 1964.

The couple went on to parent three children, including Troy and his older siblings, Terri Starns and Tammy Aikman-Powell. And the couple was together for 36 years before they went their separate ways in 2000.
During their time together, they raised one of the most famous NFL players Troy. The Dallas Cowboys drafted him in 1989. Charlyn was the one to manage the former NFL player.
She would manage all the fan letters and prepare him for public appearances. Charlyn would also take care of the business side of the quarterback’s life. From investment in restaurants to playing in charity golf tournaments.

For many years, in interviews, he would describe his ideal woman to be like the supermodel Cindy Crawford but needed her to act in a small-town way like his mother.
One day after his mother’s passing, Troy Aikman wrote a touching tribute to his mother on Instagram. The quarterback reflected on messages received from dear ones who knew his mother closely and wanted her to know she was missed by everyone.

After her son’s success in the field, she partly worked as his manager and then worked for Troy Aikman Enterprises.
And for Charlyn, her work as a society editor was probably much easier than handling her famous son’s brazed fans. Going through 20,000 fan emails with many wild things written would certainly have given her headaches.

The quarterback was always protective of his family and especially of his mother. He didn’t want his parents to be separated in the first place, and went they got back together after their initial split, he even built them a ranch in McKinney to keep them near him.
In 2000, while working at Troy Aikman’s Enterprises, she said in an interview with ESPN that her son was finding it hard to realize he might have to retire. Charlyn said that Troy found it difficult to walk away from the sport which he had been doing for such a long time.

Tammy Powell, age 57, is the first child of Charlyn Aikman and Kenneth Aikman. She is currently the CEO of St. Anthony Hospital and started her journey in the same hospital as a nurse.
In 2003, Tammy was appointed as the COO of Bone and Joint Hospital and rejoined St. Anthony in 2005 after two years of leave. And if Tammy has great memories working for St. Anthony, she has ones she would never want to recall.
In 1995, during Oklahoma City Bombing, Tammy was working five blocks away from the site. For years she suffered from the aftermath of the bombing but was able to move in life.
Tammy is married to Mike Powell and has two sons, Drew and Reid. Her family lives in Norman, Oklahoma.

Terri Starns, the middle child of the Aikman family, is a certified registered nurse. She resides in Lewisville, Texas, with her husband, Rich, and their two children, Brady and Brooke.
On her Facebook handle, Terri can be seen supporting several fundraisers done for foundations relating to health and LGBTQ projects. Terri has preferred to stay away from the media limelight and has rarely given any media interviews.

Troy Aikman, age 55, is the third child of Charyln Aikman and Kenneth Aikman. One of the most famous names in NFL history, the legendary began his NFL journey with the Dallas Cowboys.
With the Cowboys, Aikman won three super bowls and was inducted into the Hall Of Fame in 2006, six years after he retired from the league. After his retirement, Troy started to work as a commentator with Fox and is currently working with ESPN.
Troy was previously married to Cowboys publicist Rhonda Worthey with whom he shares two daughters. The couple filed for divorce in 2011, and in 2017 the former quarterback tied the knot with fashion retailer Capa Mooty.
