Wahida Djebbara and Hafid Benzema: Karim Benzema Parents and Ethnicity

Karim came from a family of Algerian immigrants who resided in the turbulent Bron neighborhood. His grandfather, Da Lakehal Benzema, lived in the village of Tigzirt, located in the northern town of At Djellil in Algeria, before relocating to Lyon, where he eventually made his home in the 1950s.

However, The contract was finalized when Lyon’s representatives spoke with Benzema’s parents. They didn’t hesitate to hire Karim, playing for their youth squad, and functioned as a ball boy at age 9. Benzema also worked as a ball boy for Lyon’s senior squad throughout their league matches.

Recently, Karim bagged his first Ballon d’Or award on October 18, 2022, and became the second Muslim footballer after Zinedine Zidane to win the award.

Benzema is from a Muslim family in Algeria, and in the area where his grandpa left for France, his uncle serves as an imam. Despite having to practice and play games in the oppressive heat of the Spanish summer, he fasted during Ramadan. He was seen in Singapore visiting a mosque. And he offers prayers for the needy athletes he knows.

However, there were questions when he chose the French national team over Algeria national team to represent in the international tournaments. Some people wanted him to select Algeria over France, as he was also eligible for that. Still, he opted for France, mentioning it was the country where he was born and that he should prioritize it more over anything else in the world.

He is a devoted Islamic player who kept his fast during the holy month of Ramadan while scoring hattricks on the field for his team. He first won the Pichichi Trophy in 2022 for having the most goals in a season. As he won his fifth championship in 2022, Benzema finished as the top scorer in the Champions League. After Zinedine Zidane, Benzema is the second player of Islam to win the Ballon d’Or for his accomplishments. He also received the UEFA Player of the Year award.

Benzema is blessed to have a family of four, including his girlfriend and two kids with two other women.

Karim had two brothers who played football, namely Gressy Benzema, who resigned from the game in 2012 owing to injuries and has since aided Benzema in his endeavors. He was a football player for Vaulx-en-Velin in the sixth division of the French league. His other brother, Sabri Benzema, briefly played semi-pro football for a team in his hometown before giving up the sport.
