Wasim Akram was married to Huma Mufti before his second wedding. She unexpectedly passed away in October 2009.
The two had been married for fifteen years after exchanging vows in 1995. At Chennai, India’s Apollo Hospital, she suffered multiple organ failures and passed away. Together, they had two boys.

Wasim Akram was born on June 3, 1966, in Lahore to a Punjabi family. After India and Pakistan were divided in 1947, Chaudhary Muhammed Akram, the father of Akram, who was born in a village close to Amritsar, relocated to Kamonki in the Pakistani Punjab.
Begum Akram is the name of his mother. His siblings are number 3. Nadeem and Naeem Akram, are two older brothers. Sofia Akram is his younger sister. He attended Government Islamia College in Civil Lines, Lahore for his education.

He guided Pakistan to the 1999 World Cup finals when they surrendered and were thrashed by Australia by eight wickets with about 30 overs remaining.
