Xavi Simons Dad Regillio Simons: Is He Related To Xavi Hernandez?

Following in his dad Regillio Simons’ footsteps, Xavi Simons is also pursuing a career in football. He’s picking up where his father left off.

The PSV forward was thrust into the public eye after his team’s dominant performance in the Europa League triumph against the English club Arsenal. The team, managed by Michael Arteta, suffered their first loss in nine matches thanks to the 2-0 victory against the Gunners.

The Dutch footballer, who is just 19 years old, was identified as one of the three emerging young talents from the Netherlands who were included in the running for this year’s Golden Boy award.

Although he has the age as other wonder kids Jude Bellingham, Jamal Musiala, and Pedri, Xavi Simons appears to have always been in the game for longer than the rest.

PSV Eindhoven is where the teenager is finally beginning to live up to the expectations placed on him as one of the sports of football’s up-and-coming superstars. However, when he was just seven years old, he enrolled at La Masia, one of Barcelona’s most prestigious football academies.

Xavi Simons is not technically related to Xavi Hernandez, but his father named him after the Spanish football legend.

Out of respect, his dad Regillio Simons has for the current Barcelona coach and former player Xavi Hernandez, born Xavier Hernández Creus; he gave the name Xavi to his son.

Dubbed the new Xavi, Simons has been the kind of person who is good at assisting. As with Xavi, he prioritizes facilitating his teammates’ success more than seeking individual recognition.

Though Xavi Simons is not blood-related to Xavi, he has his name and the burden of carrying that name with respect. And he is a massive fan of Xavi. Before the great midfielder moved to Al Sadd, Simons had a chance to meet with him.

“When I told him that my name was also Xavi, he laughed. It was funny. He’s my idol”, Simons said. And people are comparing him to the Spanish legend as he rose through Barcelona’s academy La Masia.

The academy once bred players like Lionel Messi, Puyol, Andres Iniesta, Cesc Fabregas, Pedro, and many great players. But the tale was too good to pass up, particularly for Paris Saint-Germain, who gave him his first professional contract rather than letting his childhood team compete for it.

When Mauricio Pochettino gave him his first game with Paris Saint-Germain when he was just 17 years old, everything seemed to be going according to plan. The conditions appeared to be ideal for Simons to reach his full potential: he was surrounded by superstars in the most expensively built team in the world, and he was managed by a coach with a proven track record of cultivating young players.

Simons celebrated his team’s remarkable victory against Arsenal at Philips Stadium the day after Xavi’s Barcelona was eliminated from the Champions League in the group stage for the second year in a row. There is now a significant possibility that Barcelona will face PSV in the Europa League’s Round of 32. If that occurs, Simons will have another opportunity to meet his hero.

Similar to Barca lagends Xavi, Simons also plays in the midfield position and came from La Masia.
