Hossein Nayeri Murder And Kidnap Case

Hossein Nayeri kidnapped and tortured Michael and Mary Barnes from their home in Newport Beach, California, on October 2, 2012. He is the owner of a medical marijuana business who declined to provide his full name.

Nayeri and two other men barged into the Newport Beach home where the proprietor of the dispensary was renting a room at 2:30 in the morning.

A group of masked intruders kidnapped Michael and his homeowner Barnes. According to the prosecution, the victim was being punched when he attempted to move a shotgun that was pointed in his direction.

They drove them for 90 minutes to the Mojave Desert, where the attackers thrashed the man with a rubber hose and burned him with a blowtorch.

Nayeri and his friends thought the proprietor of the pharmacy had hidden $1 million in cash in the desert.

Even though Michael said he didn’t have much cash on hand, he offered to go with them to his medical marijuana shop and give them about $34,000 instead. He tortured Michael and then left, leaving them in the wilderness after failing to get the needed money.

Barnes broke the zip ties that were binding her feet using the knife the kidnappers had left behind, then made her way to a nearby roadway. Senior deputy sheriff saw her on the side of the road with her hands tied behind her back and stopped to help.
