Thorbjornsen won the 2018 US Junior Amateur Championship at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, New Jersey, on July 21. He also won the Massachusetts Amateur in 2021.

The golfer is the world’s 24th best amateur golfer, according to the World Amateur Golf Ranking. He’ll be competing in the U.S. Open, which starts on Thursday at The Country Club in Brookline, just a few miles from his family’s Wellesley home.

Ted and Sandra Thorbjornsen gave birth to Michael Thorbjorsen on September 16, 2001. The 20-year-old Massachusetts native just finished his sophomore year at Stanford University. Sandra is the mother of a professional golfer. 

The golfer’s mother was born and reared in Zimbabwe’s capital, Harare. Ted, his Norwegian father, still owns a house in Wellesley, Massachusetts, where he lived for almost a decade. He has, however, been working in project management in Abu Dhabi for the past six years.

Sandra graduated from Ursuline College in Ohio with a bachelor’s degree in information systems. His mother went on to Babson College for her MBA.

The athlete’s mother is currently employed at Drive Points in Pleasanton, California as an Executive Vice President of Technology. When she lived in Massachusetts, she also worked as a fitness instructor.

Ted, on the other hand, had quit playing golf until recently to concentrate on his son’s golfing ambitions.

The golfer’s older sisters are Teresa and Vicky Thorbjorsen. Vicky attends U.C. Santa Barbara, whereas Teresa, the professional golfer’s sister, attends Wellesley College.

Michael Thorbjornsen’s net worth is believed to be $1.5 million. The player is a rising junior at Stanford University.

The golfer was recently named to the 2022 Palmer Cup Team for the United States of America. Thorbjornsen defeated 2017 United States Mid-Amateur champion Matt Parziale in the final match to win the 2021 Western Amateur and the Massachusetts Amateur.

He now resides in Wellesley, Massachusetts, just a short distance away from The Country Club. In 2020, he was caddied by fellow Cardinal Karl Vilips and advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur at Bandon Dunes.

The athlete has a promising future ahead of him. Five days ago, he was named a brand ambassador for the Western Golf Association and the Evans Scholars Foundation.
