Ushik Gala, one of Sumaya Industries’ directors, was detained by Mumbai police’s Economic Offences Wing for allegedly defrauding another company of Rs 117 crores by promising significant returns.
During the previous fiscal year, the Mumbai-based company had a net profit of Rs 406 crore on revenue of Rs 4263 crore. Gala has been charged with deceit, forgery, and criminal breach of trust and is one of the numerous people named in the FIR.
He was taken to the Esplanade Metropolitan Magistrate court, where he was remanded in police detention.
The complainant, Vinaykumar Agarwal of Caphalpha trade private limited, filed a complaint with the Worli police alleging that representatives of Dentsu Communications India private limited, Suumaya Industries, and Veda Multicorp LLP and its partners conspired and lured the complainant with rosy pictures of high returns.
According to investigators, the accused floated a plan involving investment in agricultural enterprises, submitted fake bills and invoices as genuine, and misled the investor.
