Cheng Guoyuan viciously slashed his wife with a chopper and was arrested on April 16 for the attempted murder of his 41-year-old wife.
Cheng Guoyuan appeared in court via video link from his hospital bed at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. He remained still and silent with an investigating officer by his side, only nodding when the judge questioned him.
He has received an operation for his injuries. After being released from the hospital, Cheng will be remanded for psychiatric evaluation and will appear in court on May 6.

Cheng Guoyuan was arrested on April 16, which fell on Saturday, for the attempted murder of his wife at Beach Road. The 46-year-old man repeatedly slashed his wife as she lay on the road.
The victim had been working at Chong Qing Steamboat in Beach Road for about a year. She is stable but she will need a long time to recover emotionally, psychologically, and physically. The medical bill has exceeded $48,000.
Several employees from the nearby Zhong Hua Steamboat restaurant were seen throwing chairs and other items at Cheng.
Surveillance footage shows a man dressed in black slashing the victim as she lay on the road behind a parked car.
The man’s hands were stained with blood. Guoyuan made a brief attempt to engage those who tried to intervene before fleeing. The victim was discovered with blood on her head, arms, and legs.

Cheng Guoyuan Charges Revealed
According to the charge sheet, Cheng Guoyuan, a Chinese national, is accused of repeatedly “slashing and chopping” the 42-year-old woman who happens to be his wife with a chopper.
At around 5.30 p.m. on April 14, police responded to an assault at 75 Beach Road. When they arrived, they discovered a woman with slash wounds who was taken to the hospital.
Cheng was apprehended by police officers in the area, who used a Taser to subdue him. According to preliminary investigations, the man allegedly slit his own wrists with a chopper before officers arrived. He was taken to the hospital.
Those found guilty of attempted murder could face a life sentence. They could also face a 20-year prison sentence, as well as caning or a fine, or both.
