Tonya Hughes Story and Children, Is Franklin Delano Floyd Still In Jail?

Netflix’s new crime documentary, Girl In The Picture, explores the death of Tonya Hughes who was murdered by Franklin Delano Floyd.

She went by the name Tonya Hughes, and all that others around her knew about her was completely fake. It also turned out that Franklin Delano Floyd, who had been mistaken for her husband or her father, was a wanted criminal on the run.

Tonya Hughes had been Floyd’s daughter since she was a young child. She was not Floyd’s biological daughter, as discovered by DNA tests. Floyd has made a lot of contradictory claims about how he came to have custody of her.

One such tale claims that he rescued Hughes after her biological parents left her. In October 2014, it was found by DNA testing that Tonya Hughes was Suzanne Marie Sevakis, the oldest child of Sandi Chipman, who had vanished in 1975 together with Floyd, her stepfather.

Michael Hughes was the son of Tonya who was killed by Franklin in 1994.

Is Franklin Delano Floyd Still In Jail?

Franklin Delano Floyd is now serving a death sentence at Florida’s Union Correctional Institution. At 79 years old, he is. A judge found that he was mentally incompetent to stand trial for Commesso’s murder in 2001 and he was given another psychiatric evaluation.

Floyd argued he was able to face trial, which he did, and denied going through another evaluation. He was found guilty and given a death sentence during the 2002 trial.

Tonya Hughes’s Son And Biological Parents Murdered

It was found in October 2014 that Tonya Hughes was Suzanne Marie Sevakis, the eldest child of Sandi Chipman, who had vanished in 1975 together with Floyd, her stepfather.

Chipman and Hughes’ DNA had been linked. Despite Chipman’s attempts to pursue kidnapping charges, local authorities informed him that Floyd had the right to take the kids because he was their stepfather.

Floyd had kidnaped Tonya’s son from his school while the principal of the school was kept on a gunpoint. He constantly kept on claiming that he had taken good care of Michael and will not disclose his location to the police or the FBI.

However, Floyd acknowledged shooting Michael twice in the back of the head on the same day of the kidnapping in a 2015 interview with the FBI.
