Aliya studied fine art and interior design for a foundation year at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn before earning her B.S. in art history from Brandeis University in Boston, Massachusetts.
At the Inchbald School of Design in London, England, Aliya later earned her M.A. in Architectural Interior Design. Before launching her own company, Aliya spent two years working at Design Haus Liberty, a forward-thinking architecture firm founded by Dara Huang with offices in London and Hong Kong.
In 1971, Modi enrolled in Bishop Cotton School in Shimla. In response to a kidnapping threat, his family later transferred him to St. Joseph’s College in Nainital. He skipped class to see a movie in 1980 and was expelled from St. Joseph’s for truancy.
Between 1983 and 1986, Lalit Modi, the boy’s father, studied electrical engineering and business administration in the US.
