Amber Stivrins and Sister Lauren Stivrins ‘Siblings In Volleyball’

Amber and Lauren Stivrins are siblings, and these two sisters compete in the NCAA Tournament’s regional finals.

No one could have predicted that the 6’4″ Lauren, a fifth-year senior at Nebraska, and her Huskers would make it to the fourth round. In the regional final, Nebraska was defeated by Wisconsin.

However, 6’2″ freshman Amber and her Louisville teammates became the surprise playoff favorites in 2019. Before embarking on an extraordinary run, the Cardinals entered the tournament with a 4-5 record in their previous nine games after losing their best offensive player in October.

After defeating Samford, Louisville defeated Western Kentucky in five sets on its home court. The Cardinals then pulled off the tournament’s biggest upset, defeating second-seeded Texas in five games in Austin. Their season came to an end with a defeat to Minnesota.

Both siblings are incredibly successful, making names for themselves worldwide, and their hypes have significantly impacted their teams.

Amber Stivrins, a transfer from Louisville, has been added to the University of Georgia women’s volleyball team’s 2020 roster.

Stivrins, a 6-2 outside hitter from Scottsdale, Arizona, was a member of Louisville’s program last season, when the Cardinals advanced to the NCAA Tournament’s Elite 8, highlighted by a Sweet 16 upset of No. 2 Texas. Stivrins will be a sophomore with three seasons of eligibility at Georgia.

“Amber’s decision was a thrilling day for their program,” head coach Tom said. “She had a strong first year. They are even more excited to welcome her to UGA after getting to know her over the last few weeks and learning about her goals. She wants to make a difference, and, more importantly, to put in the effort. They can’t wait to start working with her.”

Last season, Stivrins was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team after registering 169 total ends and ranking fourth on the team with 2.11 stops per set while hitting.243. She played 80 locations in 24 matches, making seven starts. Stivrins’ end average increased to 2.55 per set in ACC play, hitting.259 against conference opponents. The Cardinals finished third in the ACC with a 12-6 record, finishing the season 22-10 overall and ranked 14th in the AVCA Coaches Poll.

Stivrins previously played for the Arizona Storm Club. She played varsity as a freshman at Chaparral High School and was named MVP for her 15s Club GJNC in the Colorado and Salt Lake Triple Crowns. Her team won Arizona’s Southern California Open Qualifier and the MLK tournament. She was a member of the 16s USA A1 Red team and the 17s USA A1 team. She was a two-time All-City selection and co-captain of her high school team for the final three years of her career. Chaparral was named team MVP in her sophomore and senior years. She had 1,495 ends, a.243 average, and 1,008 digs during her high school career.

Amber and Lauren are the daughters of parents Claire and Alex Stivrins. They have quite a supportive family.

Before entering the NBA in 1993, their father, Alex, played basketball at Colorado and Creighton before moving on to the Atlanta Hawks. Their brother Lucas is a basketball player in Nevada. Lincoln is where Alex Stivrins was born and reared. He was a part of the Excessive East squad that won the state title in 1978 before losing the following two seasons to Omaha Westside.

He played state championship games on the Devaney Heart. Alex had finished playing in Europe by 1992 and had returned to Phoenix. He was in the middle of his contract when he was invited to work out with the Phoenix Suns.

Lauren Stivrins of Nebraska volleyball took the court after missing the first 11 games due to a back injury.

Stivrins, a three-time All-American, battled her way back from a back injury that kept her out of the Huskers’ final game of the 2020 season. She underwent months of rehabilitation following surgery.

As a freshman, she played varsity, and her 15s Club GJNC won the Open, earning her MVP honors at the 15 Open in Colorado and the Salt Lake Triple Crown. Her team won Arizona’s Southern California Open Qualifier and the MLK tournament. She was a member of the 16s USA A1 Red team and the 17s USA A1 team.

She has been named to the All-City team twice and has served as co-captain of her high school team for the last three years. Chaparral was named team MVP in her sophomore and senior years. Throughout her career, she had 1,495  kids while hitting.243.

She played 60 sets in 16 matches, starting 14 of them. In her first season as a Bulldog, she led the team with 212 ends and 3.53 ends per set, 11 double-digit end performances, including four 20-end games. In the second season match against South Carolina (10/18), She set a new career high with 26 ends while hitting.564.

All four 20-end performances occurred during the fall season. In the second match against #5 Florida (11/21), she had 23 ends. she made a team-high 699 attempts. She recorded ten aces and 103 digs. She had a pair of double-doubles at Tennessee (10/29) and Florida (11/21). On average, she had 21 blocks on the season, 3.93 points per set.

In the match against the Hilltoppers, Stivrins had 13 ends, four blocks, and eight digs. Following that, she had eight ends in a five-set Sweet 16 win over Texas in Austin, punching Louisville’s ticket to the Elite 8.
