The remains of Taylor Wright, a 33-year-old private detective, and a former police officer, were buried beneath concrete at the border of a property owned by her friend Ashley Mcarthur’s family the month after she vanished on September 8, 2017, near Pensacola, Florida. According to authorities, Wright met up with her friend on September 8 when she vanished, and investigators discovered that she had given Mcarthur $34,000 for safekeeping while she was going through her divorce. Wright’s remains were discovered on the Mcarthur family farm on October 19, 2017, the same day that Mcarthur was detained and charged with second-degree murder.

Trial And Charges Update 2022 Of Taylor Wright’s Murderer

On August 30, 2019, Mcarthur was found guilty of first-degree premeditated murder and was given a life sentence. According to reports, the 43-year-old is presently imprisoned at the Lowell Correctional Institution. 

Mcarthur was charged with arson, racketeering, and fraud in March 2018 while she was out on bail awaiting her trial for Wright’s killing for different incidents before Wright’s murder.

Investigators claim that between 2015 and 2017, Ashley stole thousands of dollars from neighborhood businesses while running her family’s business. The case lasted a week, and the prosecution contended that Mcarthur killed Wright to benefit financially with several proofs and witnesses against the murderer.

She is presently imprisoned at the Lowell Correctional Institution, a women’s jail near Ocala, Florida, northwest of Orlando, with a 1,500-inmate capacity.

Mcarthur appealed her guilty verdict to Florida’s First District Court of Appeal, but on April 16, 2021, the court maintained the verdict and sentence.

Mcarthur claimed that when a picture of herself holding and aiming a shotgun was unintentionally shown, it improperly influenced the jury. She also claimed that interviews she gave to investigators and her mobile phone data shouldn’t have been allowed to become evidence.

Taylor Wright’s Murder Details

On September 8, 2017, Wright vanished. Following an investigation, it was determined that Mcarthur was the last person known to have been with the victim on the day she suddenly vanished.

Additionally, Mcarthur’s bank records revealed that she deposited a $34,000 cashier’s check made payable to the victim into her checking account before using the funds. The detectives questioned her about their continuing missing-person inquiry as she was the prime suspect in the case. 

Mcarthur informed investigators that she had put a cashier’s cheque payable to the victim into a joint checking account in their names. Investigators also questioned Mcarthur about cell tower data that revealed she was in Cantonment while she said she was in Milton.

After the interview, the victim’s remains were discovered along the fence of a Cantonment farm off Britt Road, just west of County Road 97, close to Muscogee Road. They were buried beneath concrete and potting soil. Mcarthur’s aunt was the owner of the farm.
